Back to School

Blog, Photography

I ran some errands yesterday, a balmy Sunday afternoon in August, in search of last minute items for my upcoming show/sale at the Lansdale Festival of the Arts (yes, a shameless  plug) this Saturday 8/27/2016.  As I wandered through the aisles of Walmart, I was surrounded by moms & dads and their upcoming students in search of the coolest (do they use that word anymore) notebooks to just the right dorm decor.  Talk about bringing back memories…from pre-school to college, thinking been there and done that, and, oh yes, missing it very much too…

But…where there are memories comes inspiration.

Back-to-School And so as we send our kids off on new adventures… whether it is the first day of kindergarten or the first day of college, every grade in between or their journeys beyond… here’s to our children and their new adventures!

After a little hiatus…

Blog, Photography

It’s been a few years since I participated in the Lansdale Festival of the Arts.  So I am really looking forward to being there once again on August 27, 2016 from 10-4.  Rain (indoor location) or shine at the beautiful Memorial Park.

My printer has been working overtime on some new images and some old favorites in preparation for the  event.

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

Busy, busy, busy

Photography

That’s me . . .  but then who isn’t these days.

In addition to the daily grind, I’m preparing for my first Arts Fest of the season.  So what’s the big deal?  I’ve done these before, right?  Well, this is my first SOLO event :-0

So here it is a month before the event, and although I would not necessarily describe myself as a procrastinator . . . I think I may have misjudged exactly how much time everything would actually take . . .   This week I’ve been busy making post cards, tags, note cards, ordering supplies for framing & matting, and I still have to print and put everything together.  Oh, if I only had a full four weeks.   Note to self:  Don’t forget to calculate in shipping times and vacation days.

My initial anxiety trigger was that I would not have enough inventory to fill my 10 x 10 space.  So I have spent a very important and valuable couple of evenings {I think}  preparing a spreadsheet!  Although, again, I did not factor in the learning curve needed to use Excel.  Anyway, I muddled through and  I now know exactly how much inventory I have, as well as how much I have invested including supplies, time, and just about anything else I could think of that goes into the finished product.   Well, at least I know I have enough to fill my 10 x 10 space.   But whether I sell anything . . . STOP . . . never mind, this is all I have remember from this point on …

Your chances of success in any undertaking can always be measured by your belief in yourself.

Lansdale Festival of the Arts

Photography

Check it out, my friend Linda were both juried into the Lansdale Festival of the Arts on August 27!  After doing some research on other Arts festivals in the area, I have learned you don’t just show up.  For some, you need to submit a sample of your work to be juried on, some request a photo of yourself in action and a photo of your booth, and of course there is usually a hefty fee involved, upwards of $100+.  With today’s economy and no guarantee on any return on that kind of investment, needless to say, there are a couple of arts festivals that I am not even trying for.  I have the rest of the summer to prepare for the three arts festivals I am participating in starting with the Lansdale Arts Fest (the only juried one) in August, and then Doylestown Art Fest (with the DPC Photography Club), September 10&11,  and Dublin Arts Fest, September 17&18.  And it is not all about the Art Festivals either, let’s not forget about the local craft festivals.  There are quite a few popular ones in the Bucks County area that run during September/October/November.  I’ll try to remember to post dates as they become available.  I guess I know what I will be doing this summer . . . matting, framing  and of course shooting =)

So mark your calendars for  August 27 and come by and see Linda and I in action!
